THE LATE MRS HODGE.
INTERMENT AT KAMO.
In testimony of the high regard ->r which the late Mrs R. R. Hodge Vie held there was an exceptionally large attendance at the funeral obsequies which were conducted yesterday afternoon at the Ketenikau cemetery. Floral emblems were in abundant evidence; including one from the Wnangarei.A.:aud P. Society, of which or gatiisation :Mr Hodge is president The- other representatives of thf society were Messrs A. A* Wilson vice-president; J. A. Finlayson, expresident; A, MacLeod, ex-president; Messrs C. Hawken, E. O. Weaver, and W. Carter. A very large number of vehicles and horsemen comprised the cortege, which left the residence of Mrs Jenkins, Kamo, at 1.30 p.m. The grave was draped with greenery, and the interment ceremonial was jointly carried out by the Revs. H. Daniel anr 7 Connolly (Hikuran?)i. The mortuary arrangements were in the hands of Mr J. H. McMahon.
Particulars furnished by the Ruatangata correspondent of the "Advo. cate" state t|iat Mrs Hodge was born in Sussex County, England, in 1857. and was the third daughter of the late Captain and Mrs Going. The only son, Willie, volunteered his services for the front, and sailed from New Zealand last January. He has seen active service and is still "some-, where" on the western front. Mrs Hodge was one of the district's oldest identities, and was ever to the fore to advance anything pertaining to the welfare of Ruatangata. She was an indefatigable worker, and left nc stone unturned to make her ambitions a success. Whether religious, social, or otherwise, a helping band could always be depended upon from Mrs Hodge, and her liome was ever conducted on hospitable linos, friends and strangers being treated to the best.
