Apropos., of the-objection by' Govern, moot to th-.> enlistment of policemen in the milita-y forces it is interesting to note uku a meeting (mostly attended by women) wa; held in Christ.church recently to d'scuss the appointment of women police. Several speakers strongly supported the proposal, and a motion was carried urging the Minister in charge off police to immediately appoint' women ' pol.ic'e._ A motion was' also passed urging the appointment in every centre Of A woman as protector and adviser of young women ami 'children, with the authority'and standing'of a .justice of the peace, such protector to be authorised to attend all courts in cases where women or children are concerned, and to intervene'if she should consider it desirable. It is. probably, not feasible to replace you!:g policemen who desire tv '.hilist 'by the appointment'of women to their vacan-

But. the suggestion that women 'should be ill various centres and iiiVosled with'judicial oo&fers to deal with women's cases is one well worth considering. A woman given a certain amount of legal power as a justice of the peace would prove of great assistance to the police of every town, especially in the large centres where there are many cases of frailty and misfortune.
