Cables received to-day indicate that Mr Lloyd George is making very gratifying progress with the formation of his Cabinet. The task is a heavy one, and it is doubtful whether there js another man in Britain who could accomplish it. This is not said with the object of drawing unkind comparisons between the new leader and the old or discounting the work which has be~n done in building up the great war fabric. But Mr Lloyd George appears to be the one man who can touch with a sure and effective finger the pulse of the 'public. A few years ago he was, undoubted';.', one of th.- best-hated men in Britain and the Conservative classes were most bitter in their denunciation of his administration as Chancellor of the Exchequer. But the war his made Strang., bod-fellows ■ and Mr Lloyd George's sins hove not only been forgotten by tb" Conservatives, but he has won (heir confidence. Strange also is the f;ict that while in unity with the Conservatives he has also retained the complete and ungrudging confidence ''of ' Lia'bour. Certainly such a leader was-wanted'-at the time of the-'_nation's great-strain, anil there is every hope, iMh at Home and in the Dominions that 1 good ' results will follow the change made. Mr Lloyd .George has declared that- his one political plank is "the vigorous prosecution of the war to a victorious conclusion and for that purpose he proposes to make the State all-power-ful financially, commercially, industrially and martially. He proposes to make the resources of the State serve the purposes of the State and to that end he is gathering around him men that promise to put vigour into the task. His inclusion of Labour Ministers will Irive a most beneficial influence upon industrial activity and the production of essential war materials' should b e greatly accelerated. He has also wisely arranged that his colleagues shall specialise in their departments and etch man's energies shall be devoted to his own particular task. By this means wo may hope to see the big war machine move forward at a pace which will assure complete and speedy victory. It is said •hat there is "a psychological moment" in the life of a Priion when be is roused to action. '• Let. us hope it has arrived for the nation. .
