WHANGAREI MUNICIPAL BAND.

PUBLIC SUP-PORT NEEDED.

The services of the Whangarei Municipal Silver Band have been giver + 'reely, and greatly appreciated in connection with numerous patriotic functions. At the same time, the instruments and upkeep of a firstclass band, represent a very consid erable outlay, and no band can sustain a high level of efficiency without generous 'public support, unless it is fortunate enough, to enjoy some special source of revenue, which may, sometimes, be found in large cities, but are not available in Whangarei. This is a statement of the reason for a meet ing hel' 1 . on Friday night and also a summary of the discussion.

The meeting was called. by the president of the Whangarei Municipal Silver Band (Mr H. Bray) and held in the band room. Representative citizens, and delegates of the Friendly Societies and Fire Brigade were present. After discussion it was resolved to form a committee to organise a scheme by which funds could be rais ed on behalf of th c Band. The following were elected to the committee: Messrs A. iMacgregor, H. Weaver, H. Bray and J. Pearce. Mr Hughes was appointed to the committee as representing the Druids, Mr Reynolds for the Fire Brigade, and Messrs Tothill and -Bell, representing the N.Z., and M.U. Lodges of Oddfellows. Suggestions were made in the direction of a popular fair, 'Which the committee will consider, and submit their recommendations to another representative meeting.
