GERMANY'S VAIN HOPES.
THE EMPIRE UNITED,
LONDON, April 30
The "Times'" corresponednt at Washington says all the Irish Roman Catholic prelates are strongly in favour of th e Aillies.
The New York "Evening Post" says that if a balance be struck between the discontent in Ireland .and India and the magnificent showing of Australasians, Canadians, and South Afri- 1 cans, the German forecast of a dissolving Empire i s only another of those astonishing dreams to which a supposedly practical people is addicted. *
M. Pichot ((Foreign Minister), writing in the "Petit Journal," says: "Germany's pLan to stir up rebellion in Ireland was predestined t failure. It was the outcome of the disappointed strategists' obsession of invading Great Britain in order to impress the deluded German people. " Germany has no more chance of accomplishing such an invasion than of destroying London by Zeppelins.
