PRIVATE LONSDALE.
HIS SENTENCE COMMUTED,
STILL CHEERFUL.
(Press Assn.—Reed. 11.55 p.m.)
LONDON, July 20,
Private Lonsdale has written to his wife that his sentence has been commuted to one of 15 years' imprisonment. He ends his letter by saying: Cheer up it is only 770 Sundays.
[Private Lonsdale, one of the British prisoners in Germany, who was goaded beyond endurance, struck one of his guards, who insulted him. The Military Court sentenced him to death, but the sentence had to be confirmed by the Imperial Court.]
