WHITE CROSS LEAGUE.

The representative of the White Cress League, Mr R. H. W. Bligli, has been upon a visit to Wliangarei dunng the past few days. During his stay here he addressed several meetings upon vital questions in connection with morals. On Sunday afternoon he spoke to a meeting of ladies upon the influence of ivcrncu in promoting character and pointed out the mistakes which tended to weaken such i;ifhienee. His main address was of a positive cider and he brought forward in illustration several, natural laws which, if duly considered, would assist in the work of char-acter-building. In the evening tho Mayor presided over a large meeting of men and youths. The subject chosen by tho speaker v/as social and personal purity and the audience followed with interest the arguments brought forward to show the strength of chastity and the dangers of inchastity. At the close of the lecture the Key. 0. C. Cruickshank moved a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker for his address and to His Worship the Mayor (Mr D. W. Jack), for presiding. The resolution was heartily carried. On Monday evening Mr Bligh spoke to the cadets. It is interesting to know that the cadets, not only in Wliangarei but in many other cities, take a keen interest in these Uilka on health. At the Sydney wool sales yesterday good sorts were firm at last week's rates. Poorer kinds were neglected and many lots were passed in.
