TRAWLER TORPEDOED.
RESCUE OP. DROWNING CREW PREVENTED. (Press Assn—Reed. 10.50 a.m.) ' LONDON, April 19. • The Grimsby trawler Fermo reports that a submarine yesterday torpedoed the trawler Vanilla .in the North Sea. The Vanilla was shattered and sank immediately. The Ferino, which 'was ouly a hundred yards away, attempted to pick up the strugglers in the water, but the submarine turned a gun on the rescuers and fired a torpedo, forcing the Fermo to seek, safety in flight.
