FIGHTING IN EAST PRUSSIA.
RUSSIANS RECEIVE A CHECK,
PETROGRAD, Sept. 14
It is officially stated that the necessity for developing an attack on Galicia temporarily prevented the Russians from having a sufficient force in East Prussia to continue the invasion there. Genei-al Rennenkampf suspended the march on the line from Gerdauen to Labau. The Germans took the offensive on the 7th against the Russian left wing, causing 'the retreat of Rennenkampf. He resumed the offensive at certain points on the Bth, but discovered that the Germans greatly outnumbered his forces. Fighting continues.
