LOAN AND MERCANTILE

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports as fellows: —

At Westfield Yards on Thursday, April 30, we held out usual sale of dairy and store cattle., There was an average yarding which sold at late rates. Best dairy cows and heifers close to profit sold at from £8 10s to £10 10/; others £5 to £8 2/6; empty cows £3 3/ to £4 12/6; calves 20/ to 35/; bulls £ 3 to £5.

At Albert Yards on Friday, May 1, horses came forward in usual numbers a»d sold at late rates. Heavy draught horses sold at from £28 to £33 10/; medium ditto £18 to £29 10/; light harness horses £ 5 to £12 10/; hacks £3 10/ to £10; ponies, 20/ to £4 10/.

At Papakura on Saturday, May 2, we held a clearing sale of Mr F. C. Bass' live and dead stock. In spite of the very wet day there-was a good attendance and a satisfactory'• sale .was held. The dairy coWs ! due to calve in August and September sold at from £ 7 10/ to £10 for the best; others £ 4 to £ 6 15/; horses to £ 17 10/; pigs £.3 to £4 15/, and large quantity of sundries at ruling rates.

At Papakura Yards on Monday, May 4, we .held our first dairy cow sale. . There was a fair yarding which met with a ready sale throughout and almost everything was sold. Best cows and heifers close to profit sold at from £ 8 to £12 10/; others more backward £ 5 to £8; cows due to calve in July and August £ 5 to £8 12/6; aged and inferior cows .2 3 to £5; bulls £5 15/ to £7.

At Papakura Yards on Tuesday, May 5, we held our monthly sale. There was a .full yarding of stock of all descriptions and prices were much firmer than at late, sales, advancing for all classes. Two to, three-year steers sold at from £6 to £712/6; yearling to two-year-old steers £ 4 4/ to £5 17/6; good steer calves £2 10/ to £3 3/; others £2 2/ to £2 10/; heifer calves 30/ to £ 2 12/6; other calves (mixed sexes) 15/ to 30/; empty cows £3 8/ to £5 2/; heifers suitable for dairy purposes, to calve in the spring £3 15/ to £5; bulls £3 10/ to £8 15/; 45 head of beef sold at fully Westfield rates; dairy cows and heifers sold at Monday's rates; waggon and harness £20.

At Westfield Yards on Wednesday,

Best oxen sold to 33/ per 1001b; others 29/ to 32/; cows and heifers 27/ to 30/. Steers sold at from £6 17/6 to £15; cows and heifers £ 5 to £10. A draft or 12 *eers from Messrs Bryant Bros., Karana, averaged £13 7/6; several other consignments making over £12. ' .

Veal calves came forward in larger numbers and sold •at late rates. Heavy vealers sold at from £ 4 to £ 4 15/; medium weight £ 3 to £ 3 18/; lighter £2 2/ to £3; others 25/ to £2; small and fresh-dropped 3/ to. 20/.

Sheep were penned in average numbers and again advanced in prices from three to four shillings per head, on last week's prices.
