In the House of Commons, Mr Austen Chamberlain criticised the Budget for its abandonment of the old Liberal policy of retrenchment." He described. Mr LloydGeorge as an unchecked imitator of social reforms.
The Hon. E. S. Montagu (Under- v Secretary for India) replied that the unequal distribution of wealth was indefensible, unless it could be shown that possessors made
(equate contributions to the State's requirements. He*emphasised the fact that capital, was growing faster than the taxes. The present Administration's reduction of the debt saved £3,000,----000 a year in interest. ■
