HIKURANGI TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Hikurangi Town Board was held at 7 p.m. yesterday, when there were present: Commissioners T. R. Gager (chairman), R. Howie, W. R. Dunn, C. B. Kerr, and P. Little.

Water Works Pipe Track. —Mrs H. R. Girvan wrote re compensation for right to lay water mains through property lately owned by her. As the property has changed hands the Board was not in a position to allow compensation.—Letter received.

Street Name Plates, —The Auckland Brilliant Sign Company wrote agreeing to supply steel name plates at 2s 3d each. The clerk reported he had ordered the required number for each street.—Action approved.

Whangarei County Hospital Board Estimates. —The secretary of the above board wrote forwarding proposed estimates of receipts and expenditure for the next year, 1914-15. —On the motion of Comrs. Dunn and Howie it was resolved that the same be approved by the Board.

Application for Road Grants.—On the motion of Comrs. Howie and Dunn it was resolved that application be made to the Government for the following grants for road formation and metalling:—View Road £200, ; Valley Road £100, Upper King Street £250.

Street Lamps.—-On the motion of the chairman,,seconded by Comr. Howie, it was resolved that the large Lux street lamp be forwarded to the Lux Light Company for repairs. It was also agreed to instruct the street lighting contractor to repair and clean, the glass in the various street lamps in the town.

Building Permits.—Applications were roeeived from Geo. Kennedy and H. Ri Collier for erection of buildings in Valley Roadj also removal of a dwelling in same road closer up to the street alingment.—On the. motion of the chairman it was agreed to grant the applications on condition that the same are carried but in terms\of the Board's by-laws.

Sanitary Contractor. —T. Sinton applied for the use of-the Board's sanitary contractor, for premises in View Road.—lt wa sagreed to ask the contractor to carry out the services, the ow*ner to pay the usual sanitation fee. ;< Street Crossings.—On the. motion of Comr. Dunn and the chairman, Mr McParlane was granted permission to in a street (frosting opposite his premises in terms of the Board's by-laws.

Valley and View Roads. —It was agreed that repairs be effected to the worst places in Valley and View .Roads during current month.

Supervisor's Report —Comr. Jjittle furnished a report on works carried out by the surfaceman during the month. — The 1 Board indicated what works should be carried out, including repairs to Jordan , Road, during the \' present Tioath under the supervision of Comr. Kerr. -

Railway Entrance. —The Uhairman called attention to the condition of she railway yard and entrance of some from George Street. —It was resolved to ask the Department to have' same repaired and drains cleaned out so as to divert storm and roof water from dis?lagging into George Street, thereby destroying ' tbe street and the footpaths. Insanitary Premises. —The Chairman reported that the Public Health Inspector had called attention to the condition of Mr Lomas' premises and yards .in George Street. —The occupiers were notified to abate the nuisance, but no notice had been taken of tho inspector's request.—Tt was resolved to instruct tne Board's inspector to take legal proceedings against the offender in terms of the Board's by-laws and the Public Health Act. . New Offices for Town Board.—-On the motion of Comrs. Dunn and Howie it was resolved that the lowest tender (£37 10s, E. W. Eickard) be accepted for removal and converting the Timber Company's building into offices and meeting room for the Town Board. 1 Water. Service Connections. —On the motion of Comr. Dunn, seconded by the chairman, it was resolved that notices be served, oh all property owners that the Board intends to.connect their properties with the water service, mains up to the nearest point of their property fronting a road where a main is laid, free of cost, provided applications are made in proper form to the Board on or before the end of May. After such date applicants will be charged the cost of such connections.

Opening Ceremony of Water Works. —It was agreed that a public meeting of householders be called at an early date to make arrangements for the formal opening" of the water works. In tho meantime it was agreed to ascertain if the Whangarei Town Band and the Volunteer Fire Brigade would attend and render their services gratis. The proceeds of entertainments to be a nucles of a fund for the formation of a. fire brigade for, Hikurangi. Water for Fire Brigade.—lt was agreed that the. engineer be-asked to ascertain the cost of connecting' Albert and Church-Streets with six-inch and four-inch water mains to enable fire brigade practices to be held •on the Board's property and adjoining lawns.

Accounts.—On the motion of Comrs Dunn and Howie accounts amounting to £592 14s Id were passed for payment?
