ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Council of the Whangarei Acclimatisation Society was held at the secretary's: office on Saturday evening. There were present:—Messrs Bain, Hanlon, Holman, Leversedge, Main, Nelson, Hardy, and the secretary; Mr Rishworth. ' The secretary of the Marine Department wrote stating that on the arrival of Professor Prince, who is in charge of the Canadian Fisheries Department, and who is about to visit New Zealand to report on the Dominion fisheries, the request that he should visit this district would "be brought under his notice.

A cablegram from the High Commissioner stating that pure Mongolian pheasants would cost £ 5 each and that the ring-necked Mongolian costs 10/6 each, and asking for instructions, was read. The secretary reported that he had already cabled instructions to purchase the ring-necked bird. The action of the secretary was endorsed.

On the motion of Mr Nelson, it was resolved that a circular letter be sent to the different Acclimatisation Societies North of Auckland asking for an expression of opinion regarding the establishment of a game farm and natchery by the combined societies in a suitable position in the Northern Peninsular. The motion was generally discussed and the council unanimously agreed that the time had now arrived for something to be done in this direction.

The secretary asked to be relieved of his position owing to pressure of other work. A vote of thanks to the retiring secretary for his good work was passed. It was decided to advertise for the position and to increase the honorarium to £20 per annum. Mr R. )£. Kernohan was unanimously appointed to the vacancy in the council caused by the retirement of Dr Good.
