MOTOR AND CYCLE TRADE.

In speaking of the advancement of the motor trade in New Zealand, the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher stated at the annual dinner of the cycle and motor -trades at Wellington on Wednesday that he had asked the Customs Department for the figures concerning the importation of motor parts into New Zealand. On ldoking at the figures he had to admit that the trade had shown "mushroom expansion." Under the existing tariff there was a deferential duty on motor bodies and parts, but for the quarter ended March 31st, 1913, 674 bodies, to the value of £41,870, had been imported into the Dominion, and for the year end-

Ed on the same date 2331 bodies to a value of £142,563, had been imported. Chassis numbering 707, and valued at £137,053, had been imported during the same quarter, and during the year the importations were 2428, to a value of £580,000. The "mushroom growth" was preceptible when it was stated that in the year 1910, 726 bodies had been imported, in 1911 the number was 1473 (more than double), and in 1912 it had risen to 2265. During 1910, 772 chassis were imported, in 1911, 1524 and in 1912, '2340.
