In addition to the commodore, the pew Hamburg-Amerika liner linperator carries four captains, who have commanded large steamers successfully, and one of these will always be on the watch, while the fourth takes general control of the crew. There are, in addition, seven officers, each of whom carries a captain's "ticket." In regard to the new State mine— called "the Liverpool colliery," after the Governor of New Zealand —it is stated that the existence of five workable coal seams is assured. It is calculated that there is available on a safe estimate at least 66,000,000 tons of coal, of which probably 75 per< cent., or 49,000,000 tons, will be found workable. Allowing for lost time and other factors, a colliery capable of putting out 2000 tons a day should have an annual output of about 500,000 tons. So the existence of 49,000,000 tons of workable coal, if realised, should give*, the new colliery a life of 99 years. BEWARE OF THE SLIGHT COUGH. Many big, strong men have found an early grave through consumption. This terrible disease began with a slight cough, not worth buying medicine for, and before the danger was realised it was too late. Don't let your slight cough develop into something more serious. Cure it with Nature's healing herbs. Baxter's I Lung Preserver is* composed of herbal essences, healing and harmless. One dose will give good results and a single bottle will cure the severest cold. It costs only 1/10 a bottle at your storekeeper or chemist.
