MATAPOURI.

! Auguvi ;io. During this week very useful and welcome rain has been falling. The weather has been warm and the new-ly-sown grass is growing very quickly. During last summer the nres ran over a great many acres of land which has since been sown, and the black hills are now fast becoming clothed with green. The lambing season has beguiV well. Very few lambs have died| Matapouri is a very suitable district for sheep c farming, and farmers round here are giving up dairying and going in for sheep. THE CLIFF ROAD. The funds for the construction of this road are running out, and we all feel here that the money ought to be found by the County Council to complete this. This is a necessity, as vehicles cannot go along the sands because of the rocks unless the tide is half full or lower, which is a great inconvenience. It is now about two • years since this work was started, and this is the third small grant that has been made for it. It is quite time that such silly half-and-half measures were stopped and the road put. through. TUTUKAKA ROAD. The state of the road between Matapouri and Tutukaka is shameful. The machinery for the new mill, which is about two miles from Tutukaka on the Matapouri side, has been carted over this road by bullocks until the road is like a sea of mud. Why on earth the County Council should allow it is a mystery. The road is a perfect disgrace to any council. The carters ought to be made to put the road in repair and make it fit for use. It is a thing that our district councillor ought to take up in the interests of the settlers whom he represents.
