CARRIAGE OF FRUIT.
DEPUTATION TO A MINISTER
WELLINGTON, Sept. ?,
A deputation from the N.Z. Fruitgrowers' Federation waited on the Minister for Railways to-day and urged that better railway facilities be provided for the carriage of fruit. They pointed out that the present trucks did not allow sufficient ventilation and submitted plans for a special truck. They also urged a more equitable system of railway charges on fruit and a system of through booking. The Minister, replying, said he would go into the question of tariff from top to bottom when the new Manager of Railways arrived. At present negotiations were pending with the Union Company for through booking of fruit. As regards improved trucks he referred the deputation to the general manager.
