NEWSPAPER COMPANY PAYS

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 1
At the Supreme Court .this morning the jury found a verdict'of £300 for plaintiff in the case J. A. Newell v. the Lyttelton Times Company, in an action for libel. The plaintiff is gaol surgeon at the Lyttelton gaol and the libel was contained in an article commenting on the gaol system
