IDENTITY ESTABLISHED.
AUCKLAND, March 15
A dispute about the identity of a Maori named Pate Renata occupied the Supreme Court. The Crown Prosecutor intimated that he had absolute proof that Renata was identical with Matini, convicted at the Thames during 1910. Detective Cooney, of Thames, swore that Renata, under the name of Matini, was the man convicted. Two other witnesses corroborated this, and a finger-print expert also gave testimony. Renata still denied that he was the man. Finally Mr. Justice Cooper said he was convinced and sentenced prisoner to twelve months' with two years reformative treatment.
