TITANIC INQUIRY.
ISMAY TESTIMONY.
JUSTIFIED THE CAPTAIN.
(Received June 5, 11.36 a.m.)
LONDON, June 4.
Mr Ismay, in giving evidence at the Titanic inquiry, said that Capt. Smith handed him the Baltic's Marconigram about noon, reporting ice. He. glanced casually at* it, but did not attribute much importance thereto.
He did not consider it advisable to slow down providing the weather was rlear. The captain was fully justified in going at full speed through the ic© region in order to leave it behind as soon as possible. It would be unwise to slow down at the risk of meeting fog.
There were no children on the boat deck when he left. He did not inquire before entering the bbat whether any women and children were left behind.
