DESTRUCTIVE DISTURBANCE.
THE FIJI HURRICANE,
SEVERE SET-BACK.
AUCKLAI.U, Feb. 15
News from Fiji per sis, Zealandia states that the recent hurricane will prove a set-jack to the colony. Almost the entire group has suffered — copra from the effects of the wind and bananas from the floods. It will be six months before bananas return to normal conditions, although probably there will be enough fruit left to satisfy the Sydney and New Zealand markets. Native foods suffered severely.
The hurricane did great damage at Savu Savu Bay, and it wil Ibe several months before that district returns to normal conditions. Hapaai suffered very considerably.
The steamer Dorrigo was stranded at the Lav Group, and it will cose some hundreds of pounds to repair her.
