BASS AND CORNET SOLOS

GISBORNE, Feb. 14
Johnstone (Gisborne) won the E. Flat Bass solo competition, with 48 points. Codyre (Wellington) was one point behind for second place. Calkin tied for fourth place, and Parr was fifth. There were ten entrants. The B. Flat Cornet Solo competition resulted —Buckley (Wanganui), 45 points, Ist; Berryman (Palmerston) 43 points, 2nd. Fourteen competed. The attendance last night was a record for New Zealand at solo conIn the B Flat Cornet Solo event the playing generally was poor. Dobson tied for fifth place, Flower was seventh, and Cooper last. The test selection to-night promises to provide very keen rivalry. 13 Flat Flu?«l Horn Solo.—E. Miller (Gisborne City) 42; R. Ramsay (Palmerston) 40. The Tenor and Bass Trombone Solos are proceeding.
