KILLED ON THE RAILWAY.
SHOCKING AFFAIR AT TRENTHAM. WELLINGTON, Jan. 26. Mr H. M. Lyon, late secretary of the Underwriters' Association, and formerly for .many years secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, was killed at Trentham station yesterday afternoon. He tried to get up on the platform from the line as the train was approaching, but being incapacitated through a slight physical deformity he was placed at a disadvantage, and was unable to mount the platform before he was knocked down by the train. The body was badly mangled, becoming entangled in the bogie of the leading car. Lifting jacks from the engine had to be used to extricate the body. Deceased was 59 years of age, and leaves a widow, four sons, and one daughter.
