AT PEACE WITH THE WORLD.
PREPAREDNESS WOULD BE WISE.
(Received Dec. 19, 11.14 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. IS. President Taft, at a dinner at Washington, declared that the recent efforts of the newspapers to create a scare as to the country's unpreparedness for war were absurd. The United States was at iteace with the world; but ho urged that it would. be wise to make military preparation. Americans would never consent to the maintenance of a standing army able to cope with any European system from within. He favored the improvement, of the national militia.
