VARIOUS.
The recent spell of fine weather has improved the roads, and probably in a few weeks the mud-holes will be forgotten until next winter. The cream waggon has started running again to Whangarei, Mr Wilford Gunson, the contractor, having secured a three-years' contract. The Waikiekie Dairy Co. has not as yet shipped any butter, but a start is intended next week. This company has made considerable improvements in its plant, a new combined churn and butter-maker, etc. having been installed. It is reported that at an early data a thorough prospecting of the district for coal will be put in hand; and this may probably be the most important event in the history of the district, as should a payable seam be struck, the close proximity of deep water and: the saving of all railway charges, would enable it to be placed on the market at a payable price.
