Native Land Settlement.
IMPORTANT BAWKE'S BAY OASJ3 3 Press Association. Hastings, September 22. The Native Land Court, presided over by Judge Hair, sat here yesterday for the- purpose of bearing argument in the Wafmarama case. ■This block is being partitioned for closer settlement. As was discussed at the large meeting of Maoris held some months back, when the late Mr Seddon .was in attendance/ several native owners objected to the partition, ani. there were rumours of wax. Mrs Donnelly, who is extensively interested in the block, said she hoped the anatten would be left to the natives to settle, without interference by Euroj)eans« The natives would discuss the matter, and probably disagree at first, but they would be able to settle their differences and come to an arrangement ,which would be acceptable to all. She asked the Court not to be impatient if the negotiations took time, as the block iwas very valuable, and it was important that any sett t cment made should be final. SJudgc Mair congratulated the owners on their desire to sec a friendly termination. He would, he said, arrange for a Government surveyor to be in attendance, to assist the natives. .
