DECEASED'S CAREER.
Mr Wilson fust came to New Zealand about 35 years ago, travelling in the lonic on her maiden trip. The vessel was in charge of Captain Hallel I , and was considered to be a very large boat in those days. The deceased had witnessed her launching by the Prince of Wales. After being at Hikurangi for about nine years, Mr Wilson had left for England, but re-
turned to Hikurangi some 23 years ago. He married about 17 years since the widow of Hoera Joel. The latter, who was a Maori, was lfiiled in the tribal battle at Poroti, in 11887, by his own brother. Mr Wilson had the reputation of being a thorough and conscientious workman, and there is ample substantiation of this in the condition of the estate which he has left, the place being converted into a flourishing garden and orchard out of a swampy wilderness. Deceased was >61 years of age.
