ACCIDENTS.
Auckland, Thursday. Yesterday a fatal accident occurred at Mount Eden, by which a boy named Augustive Murphy lost his life. Deceased and two brothers were playing with an empty truck on the railway line, pushing it backwards and forwards, when, deceased slipped and fell across line, the truck passing over him, killing him instantly. Another accident, fortunately not fatal but very serious, occurred at the same station. Mrs Burns stepped out of a train before it was quite stopped, and her dress catching, she was thrown on the line, the wheels of the carriage breaking both limbs. It is doubtful -whether she will recover.
The Sunny Side Lunatic asylum, at Christchurch, was partly burned down yesterday. Fortunately all patients were got out, and no fatalities occurred. The fire is supposed to have started from a de f ective chimney, and before put out, damage estimated from £12,000 to £15,000 Tvas done. Four wards were completely destroyed, but the concrete hall in the centre of the building, containing a valuable organ, was uninjured. The building was uninsured and the loss will therefore fall directly on taxpayers.
