UNIVERSITY BOAT RACE.

London, March 24. The Cambridge-Oxford boat race was won by Cambridge by five lengths. Cambridge led at the start, and kept ahead throughout the race. Time, 20min 3secs. The weather was foggy. Messrs. Landale and Hawthorn Beel Australians, rowed fourth and sixth respectively in the Cambridge boat. This makes the third consecutive victory for Cambridge, which carried off the race in 1886 and 1887. Since 1829, when the fixture orginated, forty-five matches have been rowed, of which Oxford has won 23 and Cambridge 21, the race of 1877 resulting in a dead 'heat. The time, 20min. 3sec, is the fastest in which the Putney Mortlake course has been rowed in eight-oared gigs, the record hitherto being that of 1869, when the distance was accomplished in 20min 3sec Last year's time over the same course was 20min 52sec.
