WHANGAREI TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Town Board took place on Monday, the sth inst. Present: Cmrs. Corns (chairman), Williams, Scott, Reed, and Eeyburn. The minutes of. the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the Public Hall committee, requesting that a light should be placed at or about the Hall. It was resolved, " That the Board is willing to bear half the cost, on condition that the Hall committee contribute half." A letter was read from Mr Craddook, requesting to lease the Cemetery Eeserve for 10 years on certain conditions of improve nent. After some considerable conversation, it was resolved, "That tenders be called for the lease of the land." ' , •■ Accounts to the amount of £41 17/2 were road and passed for payment. CURBING AND CHANNELLING. The curbing and channelling of Cam-eron-street was discussed,' and ultimately Cmr. Eeyburn proposed, "That the curbing and channelling bo continued i from James-street to the cor er of Bank- , street, by a-idthe present contractor and on the same terms." Seconded by Cmr. Scott and carried. COUNTY ROAD THROUGH TOWN. The question of the charge of the County Eoad running through the township was again discussed, the present unsatisfactory state of affairs denounced. Cmr. Eeyburn proposed, "That the Town Board will take over the County road through the town, provided the County. will refund the rates collected within the town boundaries, with all subsidies." Seconded by the Chairman, and carried. ROAD TO WHARF. A numerously signed petition was laid on the table requesting the Town Board to take some steps to secure a continuation of Cameron-street to the lower wharf, to afford free access to it. The subject was discussed at some length, and it was ultimately resolved to refer the matter to the County Council.
