TRIAL OF SOCIALISTS.
The trial of Graham, M.P. for North West Lanarkshire, and Burns, socialist leader, for seditious language in Trafalgar Square, on November 13th, resulted in sentences of six week's imprisonment without hard labour.
W. J. Lane, M.P. for East Cork was sentenced to one month, for intimidation.
Eleven crofters were arrested last week at Liewis. Acquitted crofters now threaten to clear out the deer forests at Lewis.
The French Press is making violent attach on Italy. Consulate difficuly arose out of an Italian Magistrate attempting to seize papers belonging to the French Consulate at Florence.
British Government has urged the Pope J» disavow sympathy with Parnoll, and Reprobate League. The Pope advises the Government to exercise patience, and trusts a more satisfactory state of affairs will soon be arrived at.
Newcastle, January 19. Arrived the Russian corvette Aoillan having on board several noblemen.
Sydney, January 19. The swollen corpse of a man was discovered in the city water supply basin.
Further deaths from sunstroke. Heat yesterday 101 in the shade here, and in the country 114.
Brisbane, January 19. Sunstroke heat, 1 1 7 in the shade.
