CANTERBURY LABORERS.

At the half-yearly "meeting of the Canterbury Laborers , Union, Mr. E. Howard presiding, Messrs. Boyns and Armstrong, representing the Federation of Labor (registered), were present and addressed the meeting on the mismanagement of the State coal mine at Runangaj they also spoke on the benent-a to be derived by becoming affiliated to the Federation, and explained the objective and rules of the same. Both speakers were heartily applauded, and three cheers were given for the Federation. The following motion was carried unanimously:—"That a plebiscite be taken, wb.en the following question be submitted: 'Are you in favor of the* Union joining the Federation of Labor (registered) ?" The ballot is to be returnable on January 9th, 1912. The following notice of motion was •tabled: "That, a plebiscite be taken, the following question to be submitted: 'Are you in favor of the Union cancelling its registration under the Conciliation Act?'". The following new rule was adopted as a members' pledge : "I hereby pledge mys&lf to accept and loj'ally adhere to the rules and constitution of the Union, to conform to all decisions, and not to work for less than the rate of wages fixed by the Union, nor take the place of any person on strike."
