PORK AND BACON

THE EXPORT COMPETITIONS FINAL JUDGING BY ENGLISH EXPERT To maintain the high quality of New Zealand s meat production, the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board annually offers prizes for the best lamb, chilled beef, porkers and baconers suitable for export. Usually most of these classes of meat, after being exhibited and judged in the Dominion, are then shipped for display and judging by representatives of the- meat importing trade at Smithfield. This year, however, the Board is taking advantage of an unusually valuable opportunity afforded by the visit of Dr Hammond, the eminent English authority on animal nutrition and meat quality, to have the final judging of the porker and baconer entries at the last Royal Show done in the Dominion instead of at Smithfield Market. The Meat Producers Board annually offers prizes at the Royal Show for the best two fat porker pigs most suitable for export, and for the best two fat baconers of the type most desired by the British trade. The baconer entries also compete for the Bledisloe Cup, which has been presented by Lord Bledisloe with the same objective. These two classes were judged at the last Royal Show at Palmerston North, and all the entries will now be submitted to Dr Hammond for judging at Palmerston North on Thursday, February 3rd. Farmers are being invited, and the judging will be followed by a demonstration and in the evening by a lecture. This will enable producers of meat to obtain much information of real value, from an acknowledged authority, regarding the breeding and preparation of all classes of meat for the export trade, , , :. ■«,
