CAR FALLS OVER BANK
I 0 LAWRENCE YOUNG WOMAN SEVERELY INJURED A motor accident occurred on Thursday night last, between Cromwell and Alexandra when a three-seater touring car driven by Mr L. Stephenson, of Cromwell, Ikidded in some loose gravel at a sharp bend in the road near Mr T. Smith’s residence, Queensberry, and went over a 20ft bank. There were three passengers in the car —Miss Peggy Mair (daughter of Mr and Mrs J. W. Mair, Lawrence), Miss Young, and Mr D. Elder, all of Cromwell, and these together with the driver were all thrown out, with the result thatMiss Mair received severe internal injuries, and is on the dangerously ill list in Cromwell Hospital. The other passengers and driver escaped with minor cuts and bruises. On receipt of the sad news Mrs Mair left immediately for Cromwell. The only damage done to the car was to the hood and windscreen. The scene of the accident is recognised as a fairly bad corner, and several cars have previously met with mishaps there.
