TEVIOT ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board was held on Wednesday evening last. Present—Dr J. R. Gilmour (chair), Messrs J. 11. WaigUi, J- George, T. P. Michelle, K. McDonald, and R. T. Kinaston. The Public Works Departmcnr wrote in connection with the Teviot River Extension (Ettrick side) The letter stated that it had been suggested by the Ettrick Progress League that the water supply to the Bengerburn and adjacent areas could he augmented by pumping from the Glut ha River near Dumbarton, To enable (he Department to go into the probable cost of this proposal they asked the Board to supply the following information: — (1) The best terms the Bottl’d could offer for the supply of (it) k.w. for the mouths of October, November, March and April, and I0()k-w. for the months of December, January, and February. (2) Any conditions regarding off-peak leading necessitated in offering the above terms. (3) The price* per kilo watt for night pumping only for the same load mentioned above. The department stated that it realised the Board might not be able to give definite figures at the present time, but an approximate estimate would enable the Department to determine the merits the proposed scheme. — The mattefiwa.s left to the local committee to go into and deal with. The Board discussed outstanding accounts for work done in connection with two mining schemes at Goal Greek and in one ease the company are to bo advised that unless the account of £SB 12s l()d is paid by the end of end of March the Board would have the line to the mine dismantled. In regard to the other account of £4<! 3s, it was left in the hands of Mr George to inspect the line and to see what material could be taken back by the Board and to interview Mr W. Manuel re the payment of the account- it was tdso decided to write to D. J. Simpson re the amount owing by him to the hoard for office rent.

The chairman reported that the auditor wlio recently audited the board’s accounts had complimented the board on the able manner in which the secretary was attending to the board’s a Hairs and to the efficient manner in which the books were kept. The Finance Committee hail met and were very gratified with the efficient work being carried out by the secretary and recommended that the secretary receive an increase in salary of £25 per year to date from Ist March, 1934—The meeting unanimously decided to grant the increase in salary to the secretary who, in thanking the Board, stated he would still continue to do his best in the board’s interests. The following amounts wen 1 reel ived since the previous meeting:-. Power £540 19s; wiring and showroom £44 V2s 3<\; cash sales £1 os 7d: sundries lbs Id; —total ,£SS4 10s lid. The foreman reported as follows : Reticulation — 'Three men were employed for one day re-erecting pole ami repairing broken volt mains at Turner’s, Bit rick, caused by a car colliding with lie* pole and at the same time blowing tile 11,000 volt fuses at Lttrick; that MOO volt fuses had been renewed at Barker s, Walker’s, Kidd’s, Walter’s, Me Ki nzie’s and Mosley’s. In each case the fibre had burned out and to overcome this trouble they were inserting the fuse in -asbestos and then fitting same into fibre. Installations, — I light installed at Commercial Hotel, and 63 repair jobs executed tor private consumers.

The Plant.—Since last meeting the highest load registered had been 680 k.w- and the machines were all working well.
