WELCOME HOME.

The welcome home social tendered to Sergeant J. O'Brien and wife, Corporal Smith, Privates Rae and Dunlay in Roxburgh on Thursday, 22nd May, was quite as successful as previous gatherings of a similar nature. The first part of the evening took the form of a concert, those contributing to the programme being Miss Sullivan, Mr J. Bennetts, Mr J. C. Gilchrist (songs); bagpipe selection, Mr Jno. McDonald; violin solo, Mr A. Woods; selections by the Roxburgh Orchestra, brass quartette and string quartette. At a suitable interval the guests of the evening were invited on to the stage and the Mayor (Mr J„ H. Waigth) in a "few well-chosen words extended to them a hearty welcome home. All the boys suitably replied after which supper was handed round and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The hall was then cleared for dancing which was kept going with a swing till the early hours of the morning the music being supplied by Mrs T. Guilder and Mr H. Vernon, Mr G. Vernon controlling the floor to the satisfaction of all. •
