FAREWELL SOCIAL.

TO MB AND MBS'J. HOWELL. A very pleuant function took place in Roxburgh on Monday the 19th May, when the members of th 9 Anglican Church gathered together to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs J. Howell, who are leaving Roxburgh to take up their residence in the North Island. The first part of the evening was taken up by progressive euchre, the prize winners being: Ladies, Mrs J. Howell; booby, Mrs W. Donnelly ; gfents, Mr Duncan McDonald; "booby/' Mr L. Rooney. After the prizes had been distributed supper was then handed roulia and a few musical items were given, the performers being Mesdames N. Elder and Allen, Miss M. Rankin and Me: sr s Graham, Howchin and W. Toms (songs), Miss Graham and Mr Howchin (duet). Mr W. Toms then presented Mr and Mrs Howell with a travelling rug. The speaker referred to Mr and Mis Howell's good qualities and of their keen interest they had taken in all matters connected with the Church. They would be greatly missed in the district and on behalf of the parishioners be wished them every success in the future. These romarks were received with loud applause. y Mr Howell suitably replied, expressing his gratitude at the kind words that had been said about Mrs Howell and himself, and for the handsome present thCy had received. They would always look back to the pleasant days they spent in Roxburgh. The floor was then cleared for dancing, which was kept going till twelve o'clock when all present joined in singing "Auld Lang Syne."
