Te Arakura
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
An enjoyable dance was held last week, the proceeds to go to the children's Christmas tree fund. The function was organised by the Social Club, under Mr. Iv. Galloway, as chairman. Supper was in the hands of Alisses AI. E. Hansen, J. A. Caddie and Mrs. K. Galloway. Mr. K. Galloway carried out the duties of AI.C. and Air. N. E. Hansen was doorkeeper. A competition was won by Mrs. E. Talbot who donated the prize back to the club. Last Christmas the Social Club provided a Christmas tree, for children under school age, at the Women's Institute's December meeting. This year an evening is being held by the club on December 15 and all Te Arakura children, school age and under, will be included. A jolly evening for all is guaranteed. Congratulations to Te Arakura Calf Club members who tied for second place for the B. and A. Cup at the championship competitions. Te Arakura was previously a championship winner. The points were mainly won by Ann Stewart and Eex Hansen, while Harold Stewart’s mature cow won a first award. At the Y.F.C. Show Alessrs L. E. Hansen, C. Houghton and Eon Marsdon were successful exhibitors in the pig classes and Mr. D. M. Galloway was a succesful exhibitor in the cattle classes. The annual school prizes have been obtained and these will be presented at a social evening as in recent years. In connection with the proposals for certain protection work in the Oroua Eiver it is learned that steps are being taken to prepare a petition to the Alanawatu Catchment Board praying that that body take steps to deal -with the problem. The question is one of particular interest to all ratepayers since any major work undertaken will involve the expenditure of money which the Board will have to find from the property owners by means of a rate.
