The hall was packed to the doors for the second official welcomo home to returned men of the district, namely : ±L. Waugh, J. Waugh, N. Walker, B. Burr, J. Cousins, J. Thurston, J. Bassett, S. Bremmer, J. McKinnon, B. Mulhollancl, D. Robertson. Mr. N. Shortall made the introductory speech on behalf of the Patriotic Society and extended to the men a very hearty welcome home li) Colyton. Mr. W. J. Smith, on beliaif of the residents, expressed the pleasure everyone feit at having the men home once more. Speaking as a representative of the R.S.A., Mr. B. McLeod, m welcoming the men back, urged them to join the R.S.A. and spoke of the benefits to be derived therefrom. At tne conclusion of the speeches, each man was presented with a cheque for the amount of £lO. During tho evening three visiting artists from Rongdtea, Mr. and Mrs. D. Rowe and Miss Matheson, entertained the gathering. Mrs. Rowe gave a musical monologue and ’cello solo, while Miss Matheson and Mr: Rowe rendered vocal solos. Mr. and Mrs. N. Shortall were the winners of the Monte Carlo waltz; Miss Worsfold and Mr. J. Humphrey tho spot waltz; Miss L. Gray and Mr. N. Lind, ) Gay Gordons; and Miss N. Wildbore and Mr. F. Dickenson, Gay Gordons. Much credit for the success of the evening is due to the ladies who conducted the supper arrangements and Miss Daye Bridgeman, who worked untiringly as secretary. Pretty shoulder sprays were presented to the wives anu mothers of the guests of honour. The duties of M.C..were carried out by Mr. C. Wilson. A big crowd enjoyed tho November dance conducted by the, younger set, and as usual the arrangements were thorough. Music was supplied by a professional dance bund and Mr. V. Law played extras. Winners of novelty competitions were Mis 3 D. Sargison and Mr. J. Heneghan, Monte Carlo; Miss In. Palmer and Mr. B. Blackler, Gay Gordons; Miss Pam Shortall and Mr. Woodman, Gay Gordons. Lucky supper tickets were held by Miss M... Scott ana Mr. w. Saunders. Miss N. Palmer ana Miss F. MacLeod were first and second respectively in the competition which was finished during the evening. Mr. j C. Wilson was an efficient M.C. The Y.F.C. annual shearing contest

was held recently in Mr. R. Linklater's shed, Waiata. This event attraetoa widespread interest and the enthusiasm of all taking part was very gratifying to the club. The judges were Messrs. J. Lind and C. Wilson (Aratika). The championship class was won by Mr. John Humphrey; the intermediate by Mr. Angus Burr; and learners, by Mr. Neville Lind. A special prize for the learner showing most progess during the day was won by Mr. Archie McMillan. Trophies for the winners were donated by Messrs. N. Hockeu, W. Hocken and C.‘ Wilson.
