Feilding District Fat Lamb Competition

"An outstanding exhibition” declared Mr. V. Robinson, of Carterton, on completing the judging on the hoof of the pens of fat lambs entered in the Feilding district competition promoted by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board. Mr. Robinson, who was assisted by his son, has already taken part in the judging of fat lambs on the other coast and he was particularly enthusiastic over the quality and condition of tho pens numbering 50 presented for judging yesterday. He stated that he had been unable to fault any of the pens. All presented prime lambs and while in odd cases a minor weakness was discernible, this did not detract from the fact that they were all fat lambs of excellent condition. Those watching the judging included drafters who were in complete agreement with the views of Mr. Robinson as to the overall quality of the exhibition. With such an unfavourable season to contend against breeders have done astonishingly well to produce such splendid lambs. They wero a credit to the district noted for the high quality of its lamb as well as a reflection of the high standards aimed at by breeders in the production of the best. The plaeings were: A. IST. Hensen’s pen No. 187 (138, 319 and 320) 3 ; P. A. MacDonald’s pen 148 (1, 2 and 3) 2; P. A. MacDonnhl’s pen 149 (4, 5 and 6) 3; E. Burrell’s pen 354 (39, 20 and 21) v.h.c.: E. M. Hare’s pen 364 (49, 30 and 51) h.e.: D. L. Ilendra’s pen 160 (37, 38 and 39) c. The carcase judging will take place at the Feilding Freezing Works today when the Fcildinix group of lambs for the Meat Boards’ dinlomas will be selected by Mr. C. H. Williamson, supervising grader.
