New Zealand Cup Horses in final Trial

SIGNAL OFFICER IS UNDER A CLOUD. BRILLIANT EFFORTS BY OPEN SPRINT HORSES. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. Lance Wing reeled off a mile in 1.40 on the course proper at Riccarton this morning after covering the first half mile in 49sec. It was an attractive piece of galloping, though when he worked after the interval there was a strong following northwest wind to help him in the run home, while lie was shaded from it in the run up the back. Nevertheless, he is a very lit horse. Royal Chance, a maiden four-year-old by Irish Lancer from Palantua and a candidate for the Riccarton Handicap, sprinted seven furlongs in 1.27, the opening three in 37sec. The wind was also high when he worked. These were easily the fastest times on the course proper, but a number of early gallops when conditions were still were also attractive. Three Cup Horses.

Golden Souvenir, Chung Chong, and Sir Bian worked nicely over 10 furlongs, finishing in the order named at necic intervals. Spiora broke away in front of Privilege at tho four furlongs, but Privilege soon caught her stablemate, the pair finishing on terms in 50 2-ssec. Swingalong dropped right back in a trial with Douglas Haig and John o' London over seven furlongs in 1.30 2-5, the last four being completed in 52 2-ssec.

Capronella finished on to be with Authentic and Chicago at the end of nine furlongs. They did the mile in 1.42 4-5, and the final half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Chicago joined tho other pair at the six furlongs post. Falconbridge had no trouble in beating Air Lord by two lengths over seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5, witn Sphere making Heavy weather of his task well in the rear. Sphere lost several lengths at the start, Air Lord leading over the first three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. Pride of iviossourn and Sing Sing. A fairly strong wind was blowing at the time, also wnen Pride of Mossourn and Sing Sing ran a mile attractively in 1.41 4-5, the last half taking o 0 2Te Anau Lady also had the best of the conditions when she worked over six furlongs in 1.17, coming home in 49 3-ssee. On the plough, Avonbridge took 1.47 4-5 for a mile after running the first half in 51 3-ssec. Double Cross went over the same ground in 1.48, the first half in 52 3-ssee. Competitor recorded 1.46 4-5, the opening half in 52 3STEWARDS' HANDICAP HORSES. Tuis and Irish Note sprinted brilliantly over lour furlongs in 48 l-ssec. Lord Advocate finished on to shade Reorapa by a neck at the end of five furlongs in the smart time of 1.1 2-5, the first furlong in 12sec. Fast Five by TReiolyn and Sweet Biscuit. Theiolyn and Sweet Biscuit recorded even better time in a similar trial in 1.1 1-5, their first furlong taking 12 2-ssec. Racket and Chain Kept together over seven furlongs in 1.32, the first four in 52 2-ssec.

AJ Sirat worked over a milo in 1.48 3-5, the first half in 54 2-ssec. Benbecula was well held while running six furlongs in 1.16 2-5, the opening two in 25sec.

Beau Chevai sprinted home from the four furlongs in 50 l-ssec. Hormuz and Thorn bridge kept on terms to record 1.30 for seven furlongs, the concluding four taking 52 l-ssec. Bridge Acre was too good for Singing Hills in a trial over ten furlongs in 2.14 2-o, the last four in 54 2-ssec.

Miss Medley was doing better than Palfrey at the end of a similar trial in 2.13, tfie pair coming home over their final four furlongs in 52 3-ssec. Nurnie sprinted four furlongs in 50 l-osee, while Langue d'Or and Broiefield completed strong work by running three furlongs in 38sec. Kiverview and Alcyone went evenly througnout a mile in 1.46. Lowry Bay and Kashmiri took 1.18 3-5 for six furlongs, also travelling at an oven rate of speed. Deprive had a slight advantage from Burberry after recording 1.2 for five furlongs, the pair breaking 12sec for the first. Verdant went over the same ground in 1.3 2-5, his first furlong in 12 3-ssec. Swift Jay completed seven furlongs in 1.30, her last four in 52 2-ssec. Longsword Over Seven. Longsword took 1.33 1-5 for a similar task, the first four in 53 3-ssec. Signal Officer is suffering from a bruised foot and was restricted to pacework. It is doubtful if he will start in the Cup. Newel Post was scratched for tho New Zealand Derby at 4.50 p.m. yesterday. BROUGHTON IS LEADING. Up to and including the racing on November 17, W. J. Broughton is leading in the jockeys’ premiership with 15 wins. Next on the list are N. B. Holland with 14 wins, and G. F. Hughes with 10 wins. KANGITIKEI ACCEPTANCES TONIGHT.
