(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Methodist Ladies’ Guild held its last meeting for the year recently when Mrs. Gunn presided over a fair attendance. Airs. Gunn thanked members for their cooperation during the year and Christmas greetings were exchanged. Competitions for February will be for a single cluster bloom. Alembers offered to make frocks for a future sale. Competitions resulted: Cluster, Airs. Gunn I, Airs. Scheidt 2, Airs. Dittmer 3; single, Airs. Scheidt 1, Mrs. Gunn 2, Airs. Dittmer 3; pudding recipe, Mrs. Lawerence 1, Mrs. Gunn 2, Mrs. Dittmer 3.

There was a good attendance at the monthly social afternoon conducted by the Anglican Ladies ’ Guild when Alesdames Northcott and Signal acted as hostesses. Airs. Davies was the winner of the cards while a competition was won by Airs. Stevens. The Patriotic Committee organised a social and dance to welcome home A. Clark, J. Cheetham and C. Fowler. Items were contributed by Margaret Jepsen, Dorothy Stevens, Beverley Williams and Ken Vautier; quartet and solos by Airs. Weastell and Mrs. H. Cameron. A welcome was extended to the guests by Air. A. F. McKenzie, the guests suitably replying. Air. Weastell acted as M.O. and the ladies’ committee served supper. Dancing to a professional orchestra continued till a late hour.

Airs. W. B. Duthie, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, has returned home.

Mr. and Mrs. McGuire, of Wellington, are the guests of Airs. Pascoe. Mrs. Connell, of Carterton, who has been visiting Mrs. Stevens, has returned home.

Mr. J. R. Aliddlemiss presided at a recent meeting of the Labour Party branch, regret being expressed that the president (Mr. Ken Cameron) was unable to be present owing to ill health. As membership had now reached 53 the branch is entitled to additional representation on the Alanawatu L.R.C. and Alessrs Alark Tozer and J. R. Aliddlemiss were elected as delegates to the organisation. At the conclusion of formal business the visiting speaker, Air. N. P. Gill, of Palmerston North, I discussed the work of the W.E.A. The branch is now conducting fortnightly euchres.
