Miss Yvonne Rust, from the School of Art, Canterbury College, has been appointed art mistress at the Palmerston North Girls’ High School. The death occurred recently after a long illness of Mrs. L. G. Horn, an old and respected resident of Palmerston North. Mrs. Horn, who was born here in 18S7, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Jarrett, who came to Palmerston North when it was little more than a village. She was educated at the Terrace End School, and in 1907 was married in St. Peter’s Church to Mr. Leonard George Horn. Mrs. Horn was a supervisor in the telephone exchange in the days of manual Operation. She became seriously ill in 1918, and suffered poor health until the time of her death. She is survived by her husband, a daughter and two grandchildren. Prior to the November meeting of All Saints’ branch of the Mothers’ Union, a service was conducted by Rev. H. W. Monaghan in the Lady Chapel. A full report of the conference of the National Council of Women, held at Napier, was given by Mrs. W. BridenJones. She described the activities of the delegates and spoke in high praise of the perfect harmony which had existed at the conference, and of the hospitality extended to the visitors by the people of Napier. The enrolling member (Mrs. J. Ax) expressed thanks to Mrs. Briden-Jones for her excellent report. A report from the Diocesan
Council of Mothers’ Unions, Wellington, which had been forwarded by Mrs. Buck, was received. Songs by Mrs. W. Bigham, self accompanied, were enjoyed. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames R. J. Martin, A. Barkwith and helpers.
