British High Commissioner Visits Ex-Internees

Sir Patrick Duff, Britain's High Commissioner in New Zealand, journeyed from Wellington yesterday, accompanied by Lady Duff and Captain Eden, British liaison officer. They visited the remaining convalescent ex-internees at the Palmerston North Public Hospital and spent an informal hour with them, answering eager questions and giving information regarding conditions in “Blighty."

“He was one of the most friendly or England's representatives I have met since I have been away," said one of the patients, Private Jess, of Lanarkshire, Scotland. “He spoke to me as if he were only an ordinary soldier, instead of a Sir, and I not even a Mister."

Many of the patients are willing to wait in New Zealand until March in order to arrive in England at the beginning of summer, and also to enable them to see some of this country, but as there are no facilities for travelling through either of the Islands, they are waiting now for the next move by the shipping authorities.
