TYPHOON NARROWLY FAILS AT FLEMINGTON

Beaten by Half-a-length In Final Handicap (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Eeceived Sunday, 8.10 p.m. MELBOUBNE, Nov. 11. Typhoon failed by half-a-length to win his first Australian race when ho was defeated by that margin by the Western Australian horse Eubontine in the Final Handicap at Flemington yesterday. Typhoon shot to the front at the furlong post, but could not hold off Eubontine, who had come from last. Typhoon gained two lengths at the start and was steadied into third place. He was only fifth into the straight, but got a run through and went straight to the leaders. He appeared the winner when Eubontine, with a sustained run, came on the scene. Cherie Marie got up in the last few strides to win the Oaks Stakes. It was her first win in the race. The three-year-old Don Pedro had a comfortable win over his older rivals in the C. B. Fisher Plate, in which the Caulfield Cup winner, St. Fairy, finished last. Silver Link continued his unlucky sequence when he was beaten into second place in the V.B.C. Handicap. He was clear with a furlong to go, but Counsel finished too strongly. The Adelaide filly Minion made her record five wins in five starts by winning the ‘Flemington Stakes. High Play was unplaced in the Final Handicap. Immediate was withdrawn from all engagements.
