Cricket
At a meeting held on Thursday night it was decided to reform the Pahiatua Cricket Club and to enter it into competition with other clubs. The meeting was in favour of matches being played on Saturday afternoons although Sunday games could be arranged where necessary. Tho Fire Brigade and W.F.C.A. Ltd., had indicated their intention of forming clubs, it was stated, as had also Mangamaire, Eketahuna, Mangataiuoka and Nireaha. Woodville had expressed a desire to play competition cricket with the Pahiatua district. The secretary was instructed to write requesting that two delegates from each team attend a meeting of the Bush Cricket Association which is at present in recess, in the Union Bank buildings on Thursday evening next when the revival of the association will be considered. The question of a permanent ground on which to play received some discussion, and at length the Recreation Ground was decided upon. The ground is in excellent order, requiring only a little preparation before the season commences. It was emphasised however, that continual care would be necessary once the season had commenced. It was stated that this care could be provided, suitable mowers being supplied which would keep the ground in trim. The club is possessed of some very line sporting gear which is iu first class order. Nets are available, thus enabling net practice in the evenings at the Recreation Ground. The finances of the club are good and in fact, it is apparent that it is well equipped to begin its activities.
