Pohangina
(From Our Own Correspondent) On August 11 the Pohangina Social Club held a farewell social and dance for David Trench, an English refugee, who is leaving Pohangina shortly to return to his home in Glasgow. The following are the items which were presented: —Piano solo, Mr. lan Moar; two items by the Pohangina String Orchcsta; songs, the women’s institute choir; “The Proposal,” a humorous sketch, Mr. Stan Elgar and Mr. Pat Balmer; Harry Lauder burlesques, Mr. A. Balmer; violin duet, David Trench and Mr. McNab; comic songs, Miss P. Spelman and Miss J. Balmer; items by the school orchestra, conducted by Mr. McNab ‘ The Mouse Trap,” humorous sketch, Miss J. Balmer, Mr. Stan Elgar and Mr. P. Balmer. At the presentation Mr. V. Sinclair, chairman of the social club, spoke for all those present when he expressed regret that we would soon be losing a boy who had been so popular with the local people and added.the sincere hope that David would return some day to renew acquaintance with his many friends in Pohangina. He then gave him, on behalf of the local people, a wristlet watch. David returned thanks and said he certainly would return and hoped to bring his parents with him. A fruit cake which was made by Mrs. J. Stuart for the women’s institute, was given to David to take homo to his mother. Mrs. Herb Jensen and her daughter Valerie with her mother, Mrs. C.
