Food Parcels for Britain
OVER £3OO IN HAND LOCALLY With regard to the proposal launched by the National Council of Women of New Zealand to send food parcels to the women of Britain as a gesture of admiration from the women of New Zealand for their stand during the war, the treasurer (Miss V. Ward) reportod to a meeting of the Manawatu branch yesterday that there was now £3lO 11s 3d in hand. This was considered a splendid response for the district, but it was pointed out there were still a number of important organisations that had not contributed whereas quite small groups had given most generously. It was felt that a time limit would now have to be placed on the appeal, Aiigust 31 being agreed upon, and those still desirous of being associated in this happy thought will need to send in their donations to Miss M. Grant (Times Office) immediately. Miss Ward reported that goods to the value of £IOO were packed ready for dispatch from Manawatu and suggestions were put forward for a variation in the foodstuffs for the second packing. No information was before the meeting as to the amounts raised in other branches. A list of donations will appear in tho press in duo course.
