Major American Warship Damaged
Received Monday, 10.50 p.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 13. Admiral Nimitz’s communique says: “British and-American carrier aircraft attacked military targets in the Tokio area at dawn. The attacks were continuing in the early evening. “A major American warship anchored in Buckner Bay, Okinawa, was struck by an aerial torpedo from enemy aircraft. The extent of the damage has not yot been determined. Search aircraft in sweeps in Tsushima Straits, Korean waters, the Yellow Sea and off the China coast sank five small coasters and a lugger and damaged six small cargo ships and three small craft.”
