Washington Expects Japanese Reply Late To-day

Received Sunday, 10 p.m. CANBERRA, August 12. Japan is expected to notify the Allied Governments of her decision on the surrender terms late tomorrow. It is possible, however, that the reply may not be given until Tuesday. This is the official impression in Washington. The Federal Government today spoke to the Australian Minister in Washington (Sir Frederick Eggleston) by radio telephone and learned that no advice was expected from Japan for 24 to 48 hours.
